Apple's free music creation software lets you host some UJAM plug-ins (Virtual Guitarist, Virtual Drummer, Beatmaker, etc.). Please follow these steps to set this up:
- Go to GarageBand > Settings… > Audio/MIDI and ensure that "Enable Audio Units" is checked.
- Create or select a Software Instrument track.
- Select the track and click the Smart Controls button on the toolbar (it looks like a knob).
- In the Smart Controls panel at the bottom, click Track then in the Plug-ins section click the current instrument and change to AU Instruments > UJAM.
- Choose the plug-in you want to use.
Additional Notes
- Even if you authorized your plug-in with another DAW, it might come up in Trial Mode when you open it in Garageband. This is common when using Garageband, but can be easily resolved: Just re-enter your credentials to re-authorize the plug-in while in Garageband.
- GarageBand has a default security level that prevents the loading of third party plug-ins. To use a third party plug-in, you'll need to click the "Lower Security Settings" option when selecting a third party plug-in for the first time. The default GarageBand option can be reset if needed.
