šµ Introduction
At UJAM, we take pride in rewarding our loyal community. As a token of appreciation, we occasionally offer exclusive 100% discount codes to our dedicated newsletter subscribers, granting them free access to some of our premium plugins. These codes are unique, single-use, and strictly intended for the recipient.
However, weāve encountered a recurring problemāon three separate occasions, discount codes for Groovemate One, UFX Reverb, and Finisher Neo were shared publicly. This led to unauthorized users gaining access to discounts they werenāt meant to receive, causing confusion and misuse.
The issue arises from how our discount links work. Instead of requiring users to manually enter a code, our system generates a unique link that automatically applies the discount when clicked. While this makes the redemption process seamless, it also means that if a link is shared, anyone who clicks on it may see the discount appliedācreating the illusion that it belongs to them. The problem? The system doesnāt validate the recipient before applying the discount, leading to situations where multiple users attempt to redeem the same single-use code, only to face failure at checkout.
This breach of fair use has led to unintended consequencesāpeople who werenāt part of our newsletter gaining unauthorized discounts, some users mistakenly believing they were entitled to free plugins, and an overall disruption of our carefully designed rewards system.
To maintain fairness and continue offering such exclusive deals, we need the support of our community. Misuse of discount links affects everyone and could force us to implement stricter validation processesāsomething weād rather avoid. Letās work together to keep things fair, ensuring that these special offers reach the people they were truly intended for.
So, letās break this down and make sure everyone understands what happened, why itās an issue, and how we can prevent it from happening again.
š§ Understanding How Our Discount Links Work
Before diving into the problem, itās crucial to understand how our discount links actually work.
When we send out 100% discount codes, we donāt ask you to manually enter the code on the website. Instead, we generate an automated discount link that looks something like this:
š Example:
https://www.ujam.com/finisher/neo/?ujamcart-add-product=FIN-NEO&ujam_shop_promo=YOUR-UNIQUE-CODE
Letās break this link down, step by step:
ā
It first opens the product page ā In this example, itās the page for Finisher Neo, https://www.ujam.com/finisher/neo/.
ā
It automatically adds the product to your cart ā Thatās controlled by the part ?ujamcart-add-product=FIN-NEO.
ā
It applies your personal discount code ā The part &ujam_shop_promo=YOUR-UNIQUE-CODE applies the unique coupon automatically without validating the discount code.
š Everything happens in one seamless step! No need to copy, paste, or enter a code manually. This process is designed to make things super convenient for YOU, the original recipient.
However, this also means that if someone else gets hold of your link, they can open it and see a discount applied in their accountāmaking them think itās theirs. But it will show as invalid the moment they try to complete the purchase.
And thatās exactly what led to the problem.
š The Big Problem: People Sharing These Links
This link w as designed for your personal use only. But hereās what happened:
- Some users (knowingly or unknowingly) shared their unique links in public forums.
- Others found these links, clicked on them, and assumed the discount was meant for them.
- Even users who already had their own unique discount code tried using these publicly shared links to get additional discounts.
The issue is that when someone clicks on one of these links, the UJAM website does a few things automatically:
āļø It loads the website.
āļø It adds the selected product to the cart.
āļø It applies the embedded discount codeāwithout checking if that person was the intended recipient and without validating the code.
Now, imagine this scenario:
š¶āāļø A random user stumbles upon one of these links in a public forum. They click on it. When the UJAM website opens up, the product gets added to their cart, and the discount gets applied (without validating).
At this point, they think, "Wow! UJAM is giving away this plugin for free!"
But thatās not true.
The reality is that they just tried to activate someone elseās personal discount codeāwhich was never meant for them in the first place.
š« Why This is a Serious Problem
We totally understand that some users may not have realized this was an issue. But unfortunately, public sharing of these links causes several major problems:
ā Unauthorized Users Gaining Access ā People who were never part of our newsletter ended up getting discounts they werenāt supposed to receive.
ā Fair Use Violation ā These codes are meant for one person, one use. Sharing the link breaks that system.
š What We Ask From You ā Letās Keep Things Fair!
We trust our community, and we know that most of you want to play fair. So, hereās what we need from you:
ā
Use your discount link for yourselfāit was made just for you!
ā
Do NOT share your link on public forums, social media, WhatsApp, Discord, or any other platform.
ā
If you see someone sharing these links publicly, kindly remind them that this is against fair use. You can inform us about such public links as well, whenever you see it.
ā
Understand that just because a discount code appears when you open a link, it doesnāt mean it belongs to you.
