Making Plug-ins visible for NI Software
MASCHINE
If your Plug-in isn’t showing up in the MASCHINE software, check if your installation folder is listed in the MASCHINE - Plug-in - locations. To do so, open up MASCHINE and go to:
File (red rectangle) > Preferences (blue rectangle)
After clicking “Preferences”, in the upcoming window navigate to:
Plug-Ins (red rectangle) > Locations (blue rectangle)
Now you should see a list with different locations, showing you all the folders in which MASCHINE is searching for PlugIns when starting up. Now you have to check if your Plug-in installation folder is listed here. If not, simply add it by clicking the “Add” button (green rectangle) in the bottom left of the window and choosing the folder in the upcoming window.
General hint:
It is always useful to keep your VSTs or Plug-ins together. This prevents you from losing track when working with your software, setting up new links or installing new software.
KOMPLETE KONTROL
If your Plug-in isn’t showing up in the KOMPLETE KONTROL software, check if your installation folder is listed in the KOMPLETE KONTROL - Plug-in - locations. To do so, open up KOMPLETE KONTROL, go to:
Edit > Preferences (red rectangle)
After clicking “Preferences”, in the upcoming window navigate to:
Plug-ins (red rectangle) > Locations (blue rectangle)
Now you should see a list with different locations, showing you all the folders in which KOMPLETE KONTROL is searching for Plug-ins when starting up. Now you have to check if your Plug-in installation folder is listed here. If not, simply add it by clicking the “Add” button (green rectangle) in the bottom left of the window and choosing the folder in the upcoming window.
Default VST2 location:
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files\VSTPlugIns\UJAM\
|
Hit the rescan button and Komplete Kontrol should find your plugin:

Debugging / known issues
-
If you can’t see your Plug-ins while browsing via the MASCHINE Hardware:
→ check if “User” button (white buttons on the top → nr. 4, counting from left) is selected. Unselect if it is. - Start your software in standalone mode. Doing so is causing it to check for Updates etc. This is (apparently) not happening within a DAW.
-
Check that all files are present and in the right directories (see below). Re-installing is sometimes the easiest way to take care of that.
(Did you try turning it off and on again?) - It is not necessary to register our VSTs in Native Access, just install it like you are used to do. The NKS implementation consists of special files and code, so there is no need to register it with Native Instruments.
Locations for NKS specific data
.nksf files (NI preset files for the respective VST):
- C:\Users\%Username%\Documents\Native Instruments\User Content
.xml files (e.g. “Virtual Guitarist IRON.xml”):
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments\Service Center
.json files (metadata, color etc.):
- C:\Users\Public\Documents\NI Resources\dist_database\ujam
