All UJAM plugins offer a free 7-day trial. This trial is fully functional, meaning there are no sound interruptions, noise bursts, or feature limitations during the test period. You can save and recall your projects normally.
This guide explains how to activate your trial based on the type of plugin you are using.
1. Identify Your Plugin Type
UJAM plugins are categorized into two types based on how they handle authorization. Knowing your type is essential for starting the trial.
- Type 1 (App-Exclusive): These plugins require the UJAM App to be running. They do not have a login screen inside the plugin interface.
- Includes: Usynth, Virtual Pianist, Beatmaker 3 (e.g., IDOL, GLORY), UFX series, and Subcraft.
- Note: While Usynth, Virtual Pianist, and Beatmaker 3 are "Frame" plugins, the UFX series and Subcraft are standalone but still require the App (Type 1).
- Type 2 (Flexible): These plugins can be authorized via the UJAM App or directly inside the DAW using the plugin's interface.
- Includes: Virtual Guitarist (e.g., IRON, SPARKLE), Virtual Drummer, Finisher, and Beatmaker 2 (e.g., EDEN 2).

2. How to Start the Trial
Prerequisites
- Download and install the UJAM App.
- Create a UJAM account or log in.
- Important: Always use one single email address for your UJAM account and purchases. Using different emails can cause license conflicts. Please read more at One Single Email Account for UJAM
For Type 1 Plugins (App Method)
Since these plugins (like Usynth or UFX) have no login screen in the DAW, you must use the App:
- Open the UJAM App and log in.
- Locate the plugin you want to try in the list.
- Click Install.
- Once installed, start the trial license to your computer.
- Launch your DAW and load the plugin. It should be ready to use immediately.
- Tip: Keep the UJAM App open in the background while using these plugins.
For Type 2 Plugins (App or GUI Method)
You have two options for these plugins (like Virtual Guitarist or Finisher):
Option A: Via UJAM App (Recommended)
- Follow the same steps as Type 1 above.
Option B: Via Plugin Interface (GUI)
- Download and install the plugin (you can use the App or a direct installer).
- Open your DAW and load the plugin.
- A window will appear asking you to Authorize or Start Trial.
- Enter your UJAM email and password directly into the plugin window.
- Click to start the trial.
3. Troubleshooting Common Trial Issues
Issue: "Trial Expired" or "0 Days Left" immediately
If your trial ends instantly or shows 0 days, it is usually because a firewall or security software blocked the connection to the UJAM server during activation.
- Fix: Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus and click the Sync (cycle arrows) button in the UJAM App.

Issue: Usynth shows "Expired" in DAW but "Active" in App
This is a known bug in Usynth version 1.4.1.
- Fix: You must update to version 1.4.2 or higher. Open the UJAM App, look for the update notification next to your Usynth title, and click to update.
- Please check out this article - Usynth trials are expired in a DAW but active in the UJAM App
Issue: Plugin keeps asking for activation
This often happens if you have file permission issues or used different emails.
- Fix: Ensure you are using the same email address in the App as you did for any previous authorizations. If the issue persists, you may need to delete the local .ops license file to force a reset.
Issue: The "Silent Failure" on macOS
A specific and prevalent issue on macOS involves the plugin appearing to accept credentials but remaining in trial mode—a "silent failure."
- Mechanism: This is a permission conflict. The plugin (running inside the DAW) or the UJAM App attempts to write the license token to ~/Library/Application Support/UJAM/. If the user account lacks "Write" permissions for this folder—common after using Migration Assistant, Time Machine restores, or running "cleaning" utilities like CleanMyMac—the file creation fails silently. The software does not always throw an error message; it simply fails to save the state.
- Diagnostic Indicator: The user enters credentials, the spinner loads, and the "Success" message may even appear. However, upon reloading the plugin, it reverts to "Trial" or "Authorize" mode.

4. Miscellaneous
Deep-Cleaning: The .ops Sweep Protocol
The universal remediation for persistent authorization issues is the forced regeneration of the local license file. This process clears any corrupted data or mismatched fingerprints.
Procedure:
- Clean the Environment: Close the DAW and fully quit the UJAM App (check the Taskbar/Menu Bar to ensure it is not minimized).
- Locate and Destroy: Navigate to the hidden operational directory and delete the .ops file corresponding to the malfunctioning plugin.
- Windows: %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\UJAM\.
-
macOS: /Users//Library/Application Support/UJAM/.
- Please refer to Default File Locations for UJAM products
- Re-Sync: Launch the UJAM App, sign in, and press the "Sync" (cycle arrows) button. This forces the App to fetch a fresh, valid license token from the server and write a pristine .ops file.
Trial Extensions
UJAM acknowledges that technical issues may consume a significant portion of the 7-day trial. While the system is automated, the support policy allows for trial extensions on a case-by-case basis.
- Procedure: Users must submit a support request and attach their .ops file. This file allows support staff to analyze the specific lockout code.
- Mechanism: If approved, the user may be directed to "purchase" a free Trial Reset item or receive a specific reset code to clear the server-side timer for that fingerprint.
