Issue
This error message can appear when your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) attempts to interact with the UJAM App via a specific URL scheme (ujam://silent-start), but the UJAM App is either not installed or not correctly registered on your system.
The ujam:// URL scheme is used by our plugins and DAWs to communicate with the UJAM App, primarily for licensing and authorization purposes.
The error "There is no application set to open the URL ujam://silent-start" indicates that your operating system does not know which application should handle the ujam:// protocol requests.
Solution
The most common and effective solution for this issue is to ensure that the UJAM App is properly installed on your computer, and that the version is compatible.
- Download the current UJAM App for your platform (macOS Intel or ARM64, Windows), or an older version if running an older macOS like Catalina, Mojave, etc.
- Install the UJAM App: Run the downloaded installer file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the UJAM App. Ensure you have the necessary administrative permissions.
- Restart your computer: After the installation is complete, it is recommended to restart your computer. This helps the operating system register the UJAM App and its URL scheme handler correctly.
- Launch your DAW: Open your DAW again. The error message should now be resolved as the DAW can successfully communicate with the installed UJAM App.
If you have the UJAM App installed and are still encountering this error, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the UJAM App. Ensure your DAW is closed during the installation process.
To revert to a previous version of the UJAM App, uninstall/remove the installed version then run the specific UJAM App installer. Note that uninstalling the UJAM App on macOS might require quitting the UJAM processes in Activity Monitor.
