The Virtual Drummer series from UJAM – a collection of virtual instrument plug-ins designed to take the hassle out of getting great sounding, kick-ass drum tracks for your productions.
To help you get started with Virtual Drummer, here are the answers to some frequently asked questions.
How can I try Virtual Drummer?
- Our Trial page has links for all current UJAM plug-ins (and these will prompt installation via the UJAM App).
- Standalone installers are also available:
Where can I find the user guide?
- Luckily all our Drummers share the same engine, so you might say “Seen one, seen 'em all”, that’s why we brought them all together in one user guide, which you will find in this article: Virtual Drummer Series | User Guide
- The fun part begins once you understood how to play them, because now you’re able to dive deep into the different drum kits, mix presets and special controls – let the magic happen!

Virtual Drummer crashes my DAW – What can I do?
- Please check whether you have the latest version of Virtual Drummer installed. The plug-in will notify you if an update is available.
-
Uninstall the plug-in via the Uninstall feature of the UJAM App.
- Please send a crash report to our support team!
- Manually remove all plug-in files and try a clean installation. Have a look at the following articles:
Where can I find video content?
Can I load my own samples into Virtual Drummer?
- Not currently. Our Virtual Drummers include dedicated sample content, and do not have an option to import samples.
- You can use one of the five included drum kits or create your own custom kit by using the Instrument section.
Is there an option to output MIDI data?
Sure!
- Virtual Drummer plug-ins support Direct MIDI Out, which allows you to send the MIDI data from the plug-ins to other instrument or MIDI tracks.
- Virtual Drummer plug-ins also feature MIDI drag and drop, giving you the option to quickly arrange your songs.
- If you drag and drop a MIDI file into your DAW, because of the plugin’s internal MIDI handling, you might have to manually adjust its length, this is especially true for Intros, Fills, and Endings.

I bought Virtual Drummer from a reseller. How can I redeem my code?
If you received a coupon code (sometimes referred to as "serial number" or "license code"):
- See our Partner Shop Purchase article for help redeeming your code.
- Note that a code is only used once to add product to an account, so check your UJAM account to see if the code was already redeemed.
How can I authorize my new plug-in?
- UJAM plug-ins are activated by the UJAM App – sign in with your UJAM account email and password.
- If the UJAM App isn't showing all of your products or not automatically activating your installed plug-ins, scroll to the bottom and click the 'Refresh Now!' link to sync to your account.
- Please see our Authorization Issues article for additional help.
My trial time has already expired – I have 0 days left. Why?
- Check the start date – our trials run fully featured for a limited time starting when you install start the trial.
- If your trial has expired prematurely please submit a request to our support staff and attach the .ops file for the plug-in (see Instant expired trial time for instructions).
I installed Virtual Drummer but I can't find it in my DAW.
- DAWs handle installation and use differently. e.g. Logic might need a Rescan in its Plug-In Manager, and stereo tracks are required in Pro Tools for our instruments.
- Click here for additional info.
Will Virtual Drummer work on my computer?
- We include system qualifications on our product pages and provide free trials so you can find out before purchasing.
- Current plug-ins might run on legacy systems but this is not supported.
- Current UJAM plug-ins are only compatible with 64-bit software.
- More info: Is my plugin compatible with my system?
Is there a Reason Rack Extension?
Please note that we didn't create a Rack Extension for Virtual Drummer 2, so the existing RE version of Virtual Drummer does not include the new features such as:
- MIDI Drag & Drop
- 2.0 New Styles and Presets
- UI Facelift
Please make sure to use the VST format if you're a user of Reason Studios.
What are the changes in each version?
- See the Virtual Drummer changelog
We are aware of the following issues and are providing this information to help you avoid unnecessary troubleshooting and provide workarounds where available.
DEEP
HH Open isn't choked by HH Close or HH Pedal in DEEP 2.5.0.
Workaround: Roll back to an earlier version (Uninstall 2.5.0 using the UJAM App, then run the standalone DEEP 2.4.1 installer). Some parts are routed incorrectly when using Individual Outputs in DEEP 2.5.0.
Workaround: Roll back to an earlier version (Uninstall 2.5.0 using the UJAM App, then run the standalone DEEP 2.4.1 installer). Some drums are missing from the mix with some presets in DEEP 2.5.0.
Workaround: Roll back to an earlier version (Uninstall 2.5.0 using the UJAM App, then run the standalone DEEP 2.4.1 installer).Solo and Mute controls for Tom actually affect Crash (and vice versa).
Workaround: Set the parts in DEEP to Individual then Mute/Solo on the return tracks. (Output 1 is reserved for Master, with outputs 2-9 for Kick, Snare, Hi-Hat, Tom, Ride, Crash, Overheads, Room.)
HOT
Sound Variations for single-instrument hits aren’t properly named (Studio One)
If all instruments are routed to individual output channels BUT no external channel is active, a broken signal will occur on the main channel (Studio One)
Latched playback will stop after some time (VST3 in Ableton)
Individual output levels are rather low
There are a number of unmapped/unused parameters listed (in automation parameters)
BRUTE
The preset may change when the Latch automation of your DAW is active. This changes a whole lot of parameters/automations at once.
When recording Kit- or Mix-Preset automations via Latch/Write using the GUI, those changes might not be reflected on the GUI. (macOS)
Duplicating instances of BRUTE may crash Reason.
Switching a preset after duplicating an instance may result in freezing Garage Band.
Clicking (multiple times) on the VST version of BRUTE in the plug-in list may cause Ableton to crash.
Studio One 5.2 will display recorded MIDI data from C3 to B4 only as Sound Variations, not as regular MIDI notes on the Piano Roll (this only applies to the VST version of the plugin, not the AU version)
PHAT2 & HEAVY2
Midi Learn is not yet working for all controls
In Windows you might experience wrong font types
When Latch is enabled and playing a note the playing note is not highlighted
Control values are not disappearing after right-clicking a control
Drummers v2 are currently not working in Mixcraft 8
SOLID2
Midi Learn is not yet working for all controls
In Windows you might experience wrong font types
With Latch enabled, the playing note might not be highlighted
Control values are not disappearing after right-clicking a control
Some instruments (e.g. Snare C in some Kits) have inconsistent levels between repeated hits (samples chosen automatically by round robin)
